Interestingly everyone now seems to call it Duck tape whereas it started generically as Duct tape (the stuff Air Duct joints are/were bound with). Theres even a manufacturer that uses the trade name of Duck tape now too.

It became 'Duck' tape over here because 3m's Duck where the biggest sellers and the only people not selling it to trade. Not like its a big deal, most people used to call a Vacuum a Hoover and they're not even similar. In the states they have a huge range of names, starwars tape is one of the better (it has a dark side and a light side and uses the force to hold stuff together)
