But you don't have to split it to remove the driveshaft - I think Phil's talking about the boxes where the inner half of the inner joint is fixed to the box, like an Escort. Or an...erm...Picasso maybe?

Well I thought he meant the spline that fits into the diff pinion thingamy bob as opposed to the joint itself......docchevron132 wrote:EH? The inner joint is a tripod.

It's strange you ask about the g/box mount mate. I'm pretty I wacked a new one on, but, when starting the bitch now, there is knock, as if summat is hitting summat. The bottom looked ok yesterday but may warrant another look. Didn't think to check g/box mate, good call.
I think the spline itself is fine, it's just that the noise started after the g/box refit and this ZX diff/speedo drive.Philhod wrote: I doubt it's anything at that end then. They were always fine.
But Doc has added to my train of thought in that praps it's nowt wrong with any compatibility issues, but that I've not put summat back together properly - like a g/box mount!

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
No. the Picaso's inner end is a normal tripode. You don't have to split it, it comes off in one piece, but you can't get the inner boot off without removing the tripode off the end, removing old boot, fitting new one, then replacing tripode and peening in.

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
Bolx, it ain't the g'box mount.
It's not the tyres/wheels as I have swapped them round to no avail.
Things that I've discovered that wont help:
O/S drive shaft is quite sloppy, the actual shaft bit between the cvjs is wobbly as if it's bent. I even rested an extension bar on it as it went round and it went up and down! There is a mild drone when going along, as if to suggest that another wheel bearing is just about to fail or, more likely the intermediate bearing.
The o/s lower ball joint is loose too! Arse patties It'll all have to do for now.
Oh, and the rack is loose on the n/s, as in the rack is rattling in it's housing.....grrrrr

you mock me Mr Hod, but as an engineer you'd want to know what it was, and so do I!

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
Ah!
See, when the old rack in the tD got a to a point when you could pretty much climb through the slop in the bush that made some really interesting noises, or rather, transmitted a lot of noise from everywhere else.
So, it could be the rack..
If you need a used but ok rack, I'll dig you one out dude.
Bitch of a job mind...

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
Yeah If the rack is that bad it could do with fixing I suppose.
But as an Engineer I also subscribe to the maxim, If I've checked everything and it's ok, if it aint broke don't fix it.
There is the point as well that I can't hear fuck all these days either.

Well, my hearing still works, and frankly both the BX's have all sorts of noises I'd rather they didn't, but since I know what they all are, none are dangerous and I really can't be arsed in this weather to do owt about it I just turn the wireless up.

Ive been deaf all my married life - fixes all manner of ills, plus now I have a loop system in the lounge I can switch my hearing aids to "T" and nothing disturbs me,not the wife, not kids, not the phone. Brilliant.Philhod wrote: Major hearing loss cures loads of things

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
I've tried that loop thingy. I don't know if something was not fixed properly but it made little difference
to me. Mine is industrial deafness, where most of the hairlike things have got flattened and therefore lost a lot of tones.

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
I had the settings on the telecoil turned up - and it makes a big difference I also have a volume control on the loop (which simply pumps a higher current into the loop). I have bugger all hearing between 8 and 10 KHz. Mine is congenital and will get worse the older I get as the nerves all pack up and retire early.

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
Yeah. My mate next door, Jeff, has always been deaf in both ears, has 2 hearing aids with loop switches built in and it all works fine for him.
Unfortunately my acquired deafness comes with a form of tinitus, it affects both ears and takes the form of loud a hissing noise, like escaping compressed air.
That means that any attempt to increase volume magnifies hissing sid (as I call it) and is therefore,
pointless. I paid £550 for an in the ear digital job, 8 years ago, that now just sits in it's box!!!!!!!

Re: Rumble in my Jungle
Do the digital hearing aids have this "T" pickup or is it only on the analogue ones? Just wondered 'cos an old friend of mine was telling me on the telephone that his digital ones didn't have it and he just paid £2K each for them only last year.

No the old analogue ones have a T setting too. I find the sound on tthe digital ones more "tinny" but the frequency response so muchh better. i have titinus as wellm but oddly its uiet situations where it annoys the hell out of me most.
The louder stuff is the less I notice it. Try and listen to someone talking in a quiet room and its impossible. Listen to Disaster Area live and I can pick out every word. Even more annoying the titinus is a different frequency in each ear.

James has titinus too, his is a "whooshing" whereas mine is more a ringing.

That's just it, just there /\ where you say you know what they are! Rattles and knocks etc I can put with if I know what they are and I just put off doing them for as long as I can.
