My new car is fighting me!
Has anyone found a proper solution to the front brake flexi pipe yet?
I've been doing a spot of work on the replacement BX, re-commissioning it ready for MOT next week.
Chris has done the welding on the inner wing, and after I moved the car this afternoon, I notice a pool of LHM under the car.
It's only the nearside return hose on the subframe, so no biggy. Next the car had a weeping regulator when I bought it 3 months ago, so I decide to replace the whole lot together with the FDV, from my green car which I scrapped 2 years ago...but I still have it.
Next, seeing as the LHM is straw coloured, and the car hasn't been used for 7 years, I thought I'd put some Hydrauricage in, so as I've also had the ABS block out, I figure it would be good to check if the brake bleed nipple will open...no it's fucked, totally rotted in there.
So, I change the brake caliper complete from the green car, but I damaged the flexi hose while undoing it. I still have yet to do the other side, and there is no reason to think it will be any better.
Now luckily for me, 3 years ago, I bought 2 brand new flexi hoses, which are the correct ones for ABS cars.
My question is, what happens when the time comes to replace these?

I'd worry about it then John, by the time they need doing again there may be so many parts nla that BX's will become extinct, other option is to take one to a specialist and get new ones made up. Glad to hear your making progress with the car though

There not a very complicated part to make, and only one end is non standard, i dont think we will need to worry about that. The biggest problem with parts is all the whiners who create this fog of fear that we can't reproduce parts, the cars are worth less and we are all going to die. You can make an old mini entirely from new parts, why, because so many people stuck with it and did panic! The more BX owners there are, the less making up new parts will cost.

Exactly. And in a lot of cases it seems like they have been told wrongly, or even just assumed that parts are NLA. Bought some genuine Citroen drop links last week, and was told at first that they were NLA so I asked him to check other dealer's stock. Turned out he had one in stock, and so did one about 40 miles away! If I'd just taken his first answer then I'd have been out of luck. It'll get more difficult to get parts off the shelf, but lots of parts can be made to a pattern by specialists.Vanny wrote:The biggest problem with parts is all the whiners who create this fog of fear
Anyway, I bought new ABS hoses last year and they were on the shelf and fitted fine. Might need to do again for the silver one, but not worried.

I quite agree, just wondered if anyone had done so yet?Vanny wrote: The more BX owners there are, the less making up new parts will cost.

No, because there is still stock
That said i'll be getting a braided set made up soon, hopefully fit and forget. Like silicone water hoses.

I totally agree Vanny. but most of us on here are looking at it from an engineering point of view, ie there's nothing that cant be made up some how. The whingers are made up of the fraternity who never get their hands dirty and have an "mechanic" that is "brilliant"! in doing any work for them

I'm sure if the worst came to it, I could take an old one down to Pirtek, and get them to make up some...
