launch party was held before the launch so launch was in fact sunday
and it was a sort of success
well anyway im not dead
will try to keep this short and fill in the details later
if you dont load the engine alls ok
drives ok, changes up and down, turbo whines etc
but if you work the engine
the engine management light comes on
the rev counter drops to read zero
the accelerator is non responsive
the shed then rolled to a standstill and then the engine dies
i left it for a minute and it started again and all was ok
well that was sunday...........
yesterday i drove it gently/mediumish all was ok
course, then had to give it a bit of welly and
management light came on, revs drop to zero, and engine kept going, same as before
this time though it didnt roll to a standstill but kept pullin
which was wierd when you see the rev counter at zero and you got your foot off the gas
it pulled for about 10 secs then stopped for a couple
then picked up again...
this all carried on for about a minute till the car had slowed to just about
a halt and then the engine stopped
so i left it for a minute and it started up again and i drove it gently home
soooooooo
errrrrrrrrrr
fuckin hell
errrrrrrrr

Hmmmm, that sounds very strange. What engine is this again? if it's a petrol, I'd put money on it being an electrical fault, like the potentiometer (throttle switch) or AFM (air flow meter). are the connections to these secure? If diesel, then I really don't know what to suggest?

Could be the CAS, or, er, hang on which pump has this thing got?
I'm guessing it'll be the EPIC pump right?
Are the mulitplugs secure and clean to the pump?
Also, is the plug on the FBW throttle secure and clean?
Other than that getting the ECU read will tell you in moments.
If you feel so disposed to a blink test with the EDC light and tell us what blink codes you have.
If it only dies under load then it *MAY* be worth checking that pesky lift meter in the injector and the wiring to it.

yep its the lucas epic pump
but before i jump in have to tell you that there was an issue with the engine management light coming on once before i took it to bits but there was no other symptoms
and the engine management light had come on from start up once or twice after id put it all back together but again with no other symptoms, and tonight i started it up the management light came on
but the two times above that i had me problem, the engine management light was out when i began to load the engine
dont know whether this id connected but thought id mention it
will check the multiplugs to the pump
and yer gonna have to explain this so that an idiot , me, can understand it
soooo whats does fbw stand for,
i got the throttle bit
and the tdc sensor is ????
but ive been talkin to a mate a work who said his neighbour can do a reading of the ecu for me for a tenner as this seems the most logical next step rather then me fiddling around hopefully
but thanks for the replies
its a start

FBW is Fly By Wire, the cable operates a potentiometer mounted near the battery.
TDC / Crank Angle Sensor is located on the bell housing and takes info from the ring gear on the outer edge of the flexi plate.
If your mate can read the ECU for a tenner then it'll be the best bet.
Saves head scratching, let the computer tell you whats wrong, then take it from there.

TDC stands for Top Dead Centre. ie it outputs a pulse each time the pistons are at the top and the ECU then adjusts automatically any advance/retard according to the running conditions.Way2go wrote:I thought maybe TDC sensor or wiring as both engine running and revcounter are affected.
FBW is Fly By Wire
I'm not sure whether the Cits do it but sometimes the blink code fault can be read on the dash warning light - others to confirm/deny?

Yep. the blink codes can be read on the management light on the dash, all you need is a switch and a lentgh of wire!

You can get readers on EBay for not much. They pop up all the time.
I have one in stock as it goes, but I have no idea when I can get to yours..
I could of course read it on the Proxia or Elit if the car was in bristol, but it isn't..
Anyway, te alternative is get a length of wire, crimp a small male spade connector on one end and sticka toggle on / off switch on t'other end of wire.
Then one more length of wire from the switch to earth.
Stick the spade connector in pin 1 of the diagnostic socket.
Turn ignition on then flash the switch, that will start the blink code sequence using the management light on the dash.

You are quite right W2G.
I have a Draper thing that does just that, before I was learned enough to know I could use the bloody light on the dash!

At which point they get fuckoff from me !!!!!!! Soooooooooo as Charlie says, If anyone has any advice that doesn`t need me to have nerd stamped on my forehead....I`m listening

got this lot
Series 2
I'm unsure from what, till what time the large 30 pins diagnostic connector is used.
The connector is 3 pins wide and 10 pins long with the connector housing being brown.
The pins are numbered 1,2,3 from top to bottom and A,B,C….,I,J from left to right.
Hydroactive diagnostics pin : E2
Engine diagnostics pin : C3
ABS diagnostics pin : E1
Airco diagnostics pin : F1
The following circuit can be used to read out the diagnostic codes.
+12 V ---- 680 Ohm-----LED------------- to diagnostics pin
and from wire in between LED and pin
----------switch----GND (- of battery)
In case the large 30 pins diagnostic connector is present only a wire to connect the diagnostic pin to ground is needed. The readout will work via the diagnostic lights on the dashboard.
(In case it doesn't work, one can always revert back to the circuit described above.)
To start readout of the codes:
1. Connect the circuit above, with the switch opened.
2. Turn on ignition
3. Within 3 seconds close the switch for 3-5 seconds, and open it again
4. The start code 12 will apear. Blink, pause, blink, blink.
5. Press the switch again for 3-5 seconds, and open it again.
6a. Now the diagnostic codes will follow in case there is an error code stored.
6b. If no more codes are stored the end code 11 will apear. Blink, pause, blink.
7a repeat step 5 and 6 until all codes are read out
7b After the end code you can clear all codes.
To clear all stored error codes:
1. First read out all codes described above
2. After the end code, close the switch for excactly 15 seconds.
3. Open the switch again
4. Now all stored codes are cleared.
Alternatively you can erase all error codes by disconnecting the battery for 10 (or more)
minutes. This will not only clear the codes, but also erase the 'learned' settings (eg for the
engine) and refer back to factory default.
mine has got the 3 pins wide and 10 pins long found under the steering wheel
does this mean the dash readout wont work on mine
if i can get the blink codes can anyone translate them for me???????
