Plip

Post by stu » 16 Jun 2008

I had a very clumsy half-hour on Saturday, during which I broke a pint glass (a CAMRA Sussex beer festival one, which I was quite upset about), cut myself on the broken glass, ruined my lunch (the pasta went soggy while I was stemming the flow of blood) and then dropped my car keys. They landed on the pavement plip-down and smashed the plip so I no longer have remote locking :(

Does anyone have a spare plip with matching roof-mounted sensor that I can buy?

Or, better yet, does anyone know if they are wired up in the same way as other cars? What I'd really like to do is get a plip and sensor from something like a scrap ZX, as they are much smaller and easier to carry around in your pocket. Will this be a straight swap?
Cheers,
Stu

you dont need the roof bit, you can re-code them (if they are like the CX ones anyway and i think they are exactly the same)

i will dig out the detials
OK, so i've got some stuff, some of it goes, some of it doesnt, some of it never will again!

Recoding a spare plip to match your receiver is covered in this article:

I've done this and know it does work. :D

Actually, Charlie, that might be best - then I can just swap the workings from mine into it and I won't even need to re-programme! Thanks.

It hit the pavement with the button facing down, so the red button has gone AWOL and the casing's smashed up around where it would clip into place. I didn't bother searching for the button in the gutter as there's nothing for it to clip back into :(

It's the red button bit that I've smashed, so with a bit of ingenuity and superglue, that might well do me.

Are you coming to the National? Or can you post it to me? I'll send beer vouchers, of course!

It came today, cheers Charlie! I reckon that's exactly what I need. I'll have a go at it tomorrow when it's light and I'm not completely exhausted. Pint waiting at the National!

Spoke too soon - no need to wait for daylight at all. The whole thing comes apart without any tools required; in fact I swapped my innards into Charlie's casing while talking on the phone to my sister. It lights up when you press the button so no reason why it won't work, but I can't be arsed to walk round to where the car's parked so will report back tomorrow. Thanks again charlie!

I reckon there's a good 48% chance it either did or didn't work.
