Tall tales and little Saga's

Post by Vanny » 15 Jul 2008

Well its been a while since ive writ a sermon on THE car mostly as a result of being uber busy first with exams then with the ULM Formula Student car. On the degree front well i finally graduated after not exactly a short time, took a hell of a lot of effort but deffinately paid off and i'm happy with the result! On the FS front well we actually got a car to competition and managed to get through scruitineering, noise test, tilt test and brake test and managed a lap and a half on the endurance race before terminal chasis failure led to a wheel coming off (Should have had citroen hydraulics!).

So, the car! Well there has been little work done, mostly just trying to keep her with forward motion. I finally swapped out the second leaking FDV 10 days ago and the car is a totally different animal now, but as with all HP Citroens, i fixed one leak and the low pressure return from the N/S/F strut is pooling out. Actually now i think about it, theres a hell of a lot more fluid than there should be, perhaps it is the return from the safety valve? General problem is that the fluid returns through a length of washer hose which has perished under the influence of oil. Havent managed to source alternative pipe yet (everywhere is sold out of any suitable pipe!)

Anyways thats nothing compared to the list of other things amiss;
  • sheared O/S/R ABS sensor (been like that for two years now)
  • leak from one of the drive shaft seals
  • blowing from the exhaust still i think
  • inner wings are looking worse and worse by the day
  • MOT due in the near future
  • need to change to the aircon sump
  • need an oil change to go with it
  • N/S/F door wont unlock from the central locking, and is very very stiff on the key (suspect failure)
  • roof console has deformed and rattles A LOT
  • clutch is generally naff, it works just about fine but if you fully load it it just slips!
theres probably more that i'm forgetting so i might update in time

Oh i remember another good one
  • need to bleed the brakes all round, but have no bleed nipples, all round!
Hopefully i'll come to stratford but i fear the MOT might be up before then, and with the fucking 4x4 still in the garage i can't do shit about it.

Fire the fucking 4x4 out, or charge for rental space. Thats taking the fricking piss.

I think Vanny means the nipples have all broken off, as they do since they corrode into the calipers.

Easy to get round though!
Bleed the brakes via the pipes on the rears, and the hoses on the front. not perfect enginering practice, but it works.

Alternatively, I have some rear calipers, and if everything else fails, I can drill out the remains of the old nipples.

i've got front and rear spare calipers and a box of much improved bleed niples, but have no bench vice nor time/inclination to do it. i want a car to drive not to fix all the time. Oh i've now been LHM leak free for 29 hours.

Bring the cunting calipers to Strat, I'll fit the fuckers there, at 2 in the morning, after 20 beers!

Why the fuck did you buy an old Citroen then? Enquiring minds demand to know!

i ask that question occasionally, then i drive a vauxhaul corsa or a transit or fiesta or peugeot 405 estate and then can't wait to get back in the BX. I appreciate that intemacy is something to cherish in ownership, but sometimes i'd like to drive the car and not lay under it!

8) Ha Ha ! I`ll bring my 8mm taps just in case.
The solution is to run 2 cars your BX doesn`t get as much hammer so doesn`t break down as much an you appreciate it after driving the "other"
The Picasso is handy but the ride is crap in comparison.

Mind you I`m feeling the pinch with all this years added costs, something will have to go soon
Insurance jumped after hitting that mobile chicane last April :x

Have you checked the filler pipe and tank breathers?
My old BX14 did that and it took me ages to discover there was a leaky joint in the pipe. When the sun was out, it warmed everything up and stunk of petrol!!

Why don't you just get rid of the fucker then dude? I know this is a BX forum (and that I'm extremely fickle) but being honest you'd be better off fucking it off and getting another one surely?
I have a truck sat idle and Widnes have two of the biggest paying yards in the Noth West

Ps: is that 4x4 still there then?

what the fuck, did you read the list of problems knob rot? Theres fuck all wrong with it, why in gods name would i get shut?

I do have about 1 ton of scrap metal (field rollers) if you fancy weighing them in some time? the scrap man forgot to pick them up last time, and being rollers they will roll onto the back of your truck quite happily. I was gonna start taking them but my grandad has got rid of all his trailers!

PS yes the fucking 4x4 is still there, its going to get scraped if the owner isnt careful, along with a mini!

Erm, I think we could do that between us old lad no bother. Nearest yard shouldn't be far away at all and good payers too.
Did that 40ft trailer ever get shifted by the way? I forgot to chase my contact to see if he was still exporting them.
