Hand Brake Cables

Post by Vanny » 12 Aug 2008

Went to change the cables today, but on inspection i realised that i actually changed them last year and the cable its self is fine. Its only the outer sheath that has been 'eaten' by the wheel rubbing against it. So instead (for the purposes of the MOT) i've simply cut off the old shroud and replaced it with a length of hose pipe. I tend to do this every other year and replace the cables on the alternate year, especially as i tend to pick the cables up for £5 each on the 'Bay.

Anybody have any clever solutions to the chafage problem?

Yes, get the proper shorter cables, they dont get eaten by the wheels!

They are rather hard to come by now, but occasionally I find them down at Pro Parts. Next time they get the suitable cables in I intended to stock up anyway, so I'll grab a few sets.

:D :D I`ve fitted those plastic cable hiders/tidiers over mine after fitting new cables. When they do make contact with the wheel occasionally, they revolve round the outer, thus not wearing away......well not for a long time anyway

Do you know what the proper length of the outer sheath should be as opposed to these incorrect ones? :?:
