Bought a ZX 16v...
Well as it says, I bought a 1992 ZX 2.0 16v.
It does have a few issues, but for £500, I can't complain too much!
Trouble with many second hand cars, is they are not all owned by really anal people, who like things to be "just so", and will happily bodge things up to get by...
The rear exhaust is the wrong one for the car, and has been welded to the middle pipe.
The Exhaust manifold to cat joint has bolts that are too long, so it blows like hell...
There is no thermostat, so the car is really cold...
the handbrake cables were not secured,
Headlights not secured,
Chevron badges on bonnet upside down... (I bloody hate that)
Sun roof drain tubes blocked
Front door speakers wrong size for car, rear speakers missing
It needs a service too, as there is no evidence of when the cam belt was last done.
Just a bit to be getting on with, but it was only bought as a stop gap car until my BX is welded up.

These are nice cars, with a bit of love it can be a hoot to drive, and whilst it might not beat a valver in a straight line it will PWN it in the corners.

Re: Bought a ZX 16v...
They have limited rear wheel steering and really do corner well.
I bought a Aura 19D new in 93, the one I drove to Sweden and back in.
It has some other handy bitz as well, the rear seat slides back and to, to give either nearly a foot of extra leg or boot room and a long sunroof like the BX.
I really liked the car but sold it after 2 years due to being made redundant in 95.
As it goes I dropped almost straight into another job and went out and bought K39

Nice Mickey but he should be able to get a Volcane version of Johns, in pristine condition with the later 2 Litre engine for about a grand and a better drive too.

The 2.0i volcane is not a bad car, but if you can find the 1.9i, that is actually the better car than the 2.0!!

Without an explanation the above statements are meaningless to us that haven't sampled theses wares? It would be useful to know what is so good about the drive or car that would encourage the uninitiated to seek it out.Smiffy wrote:better car.

Re: Bought a ZX 16v...
OK, as for which is the better car, the answer is about the same.
However, which is more satisfying, responsive, exciting, and actually more powerful, the 1.9i wins easily!
1.9i has 130bhp, against the 2.0i which has 123bhp, and all the anti pollution bullshit.

Re: Bought a ZX 16v...
i thought I explained about the nice drive the limited rear wheel steering certainly shows up in the handling and turn in characteristics. Very pleasant to drive fast on roads like the clocaenog forest not far from Mat. especially the 19 TD I drove round there.
as Johns says the 19 (petrol) was slightly more powerful than the 20. But personally I thought the later engine was several shades smoother in it's delivery, but that could be just down to driving styles.

Re: Bought a ZX 16v...
Not able to. I did put a set of steel wheels on, but was then unable to drive the car, as the wheels fouled against the calipers.
So I had to change them back again.
Never mind...

Re: Bought a ZX 16v...
individually none of the issues were epic, but collectively they would have cost more than the worth of the car to fix.
And that would be to assume all the work was done gratis.
