good to see Wiki getting it wrong again.

Data is the raw numbers

Information is a the result of applying rules and knowledge to data to get something constructive.

None of it makes any sense to me at all, even less so now....

So, if the smoke isn't getting down the cables quick enough, the forum fucks up? oui?

[chin] S'pose so 'cos teh Internet goes down a pipe, & pipes emit smoke so perhaps the leaking pipe causes bxc to come up with this sign-in shit when you're already signed in & feel like throwing your mouse at the screen cos your data has now been puffed out!

Yeah, I've been getting that a lot too. But it doesn't accept my password..

Nor does it recognise my username.
I have noticed though that once I'm in if I click on profile then BXClub Forum it comes up pretty quick without all this log in bollocks.
No idea why???

Not much of a surprise there then.
I've been PMing Alan S, as we do from time to time, and one of things mentioned was that Jon wont tell him anything at all, and he's fucked off about it, and offers and suggestions have gone unheard etc.
So if even the mods are in the dark then what hope is there?
None.
The BXC will die, and fairly soon I think, especially if Alans suspisions are correct..

More details when I can be arsed.

Seems a strange guy doesn't he? :? BXC to him seems like a toy that a child has got bored with but doesn't get thrown out. It survives at the bottom of the toy box getting more bits broken off it as he searches the box for toys of more current interest.

Looks that way, but quite the opposite.
I know jon, er, not that well, but well enough, and I know that BXC is HIS baby, and he loves it, which is why he will not accept people paying for hosting, he's desperate to keep control of it.
Things have gone horribly wrong and he cant fix it (he freely admits he's no computer genius), but he will not ask for help, or acept help when it's offered. Pride maybe? I duno, but if Alan is right I'd say BXC days are numbered, and FCF.

Although we're frustrated by it, it will be a shame if the site becomes a lost resource for us and others into BX's. :( It's also sad that Jon takes this insular approach because the bugs are likely to be easy to weed out with some support by others in the know.
Basically the problem seems rooted in Jon's desire not to communicate about strangely what is a communication tool. :?

It's not a bug, it's how and where it's hosted right now...

It had these problems before he made the recent change of host albeit they are now worse than they were. The one rare bit of information he did give out was that this change of host would solve the problems :?
Anyway, don't hold back Doc, give us the full SP. 8) :D

If I were to mention the words FREE and SERVER in the same sentence and you substitute FREE for SHITE, then you may get the idea!

The problems may seem the same, the reason being, the old server was over loading due to the bandwidth FCF was using, however FREE / SHITE servers have emensley strangled bandwidth...

I can see that can be part of the answer but there must be something else defective there, otherwise the BXC site would have improved when the plug was pulled on FCF. It didn't improve (and the usage level for the displaced on the temporary home was pretty low). :?
Also, as you say, "BXC is HIS baby, and he loves it" then if that is all that is wrong surely he could & would easily correct it for his baby's health?

Well, you'd have thought, but Jon has other issue's going on, and however much he wants to keep control of BXC, he aint got the know how, or the time to invest in it right now, which is why the transfer was left to "his trusted mate" who promptley fucked off, never to be seen again.

Yes, it would make sense for Jon to ask for help, but he wont. The result is that BXC and FCF will die.

As for the response not improving when FCF was pulled, I have no idea, since I know naff all about internets, but I suspect it's fairly easily explainable...

FCF was pulled when it was all on the old server oui?

I duno, maybe the host decided enough ws enough and limited the bandwidth or some shit?
If they can do that?

I duno, either way, BXC is dying, and it aint gona get any better without Jon biting the bullitt and either A: paying for some decent hosting, or B: asking for help.

Neither of which is likely to happen as far as I can see..

Can't see that. :?

I still think that this hosting excuse is a smokescreen to cover deeper & more fundamental faults with perhaps the database itself as the front end is timing out trying to "pull" the data through.

I can't see that its all to do with the hosting 'cos on a lot of these sites they work speedily even if on free hosts. Vanny's Xantia club doesnt run slow does it?
The BXC used to work speedily on the old server until Jon did a php update and the "shakes" started then and have got worse with every change that we've known since including the recent change of hosts.

I duno either but I guess we all sense it will die unless he shows some care for his punters. The site has definitely lost the "buzz" it once had!

Yep, it definitely has lost a bit of buzz, part of that is cos they're all dull fuckers and don't like the 'likes of us'. That said, there seem to be a few new members recently and so it'll still serve a good purpose and they'll let the 'die-hards' like PP swell their pride and ego to compensate their lack of personality!! Would be a shame to see it die tho' for despite our rantings, it's still a freindly place and besides, where else would 'they' go?
