Re: The time is now
seriousley now, will a 50AMP not be ok?
I mean, it's not like you'll be using AC all the time?

And the only difference in the peak loading will be the extra blower motor motor, and compressor clutch.

fucking bastard Microsoft - was half way through posting a long winded post when it decides to aut oupdate and re-boot and all this bolx
Send the cunting alt back Vanny - wrong description and all that
anyway, what are the actual benefits of a higher amp alt:
Quicker charging i.e. better for short journeys?
Less uss of battery and using alt instead with everything 'on'?
Do you need bigger cables?

Re: The time is now
Simply, on the BX, with the engine running, the car runs off the alternator, the battery is only there for starting.
The car will physically run on a 50amp with the AC on (though not at night), the problem is that the car will be relatively low use, with i expect short initial journeys, and that will hammer the battery. With no reserve generation in the alternator, the battery wont charge, so on the next trip it will be flat.
Oh i also wont be able to have the stereo too high!

Re: The time is now
I'v never had a problem with short journeys killing the battery, and I nearly always have the stereo turned through the ceiling, unless I have people or the doggies in the car.
I do tend to disconnect the battery if I'm not using the car for a week or more, and I only ever use fuck off massive diesel batteries..

Re: The time is now
Question then: If you use big fuck off diesel batts, then although be lasting a long time before they go flat, do they not also take ages to recharge via the alt. So, lots of short journeys with big batt and small alt = flat batt eventually?

Re: The time is now
Never yet had that happen mate. Even with a lowly 50AMP alternator I find the batteries back to peak within 15 mins.

Re: The time is now
A 50ah alternator was what was on my TD with aircon, (quite often used over shorter journeys), but if anything was slightly wrong in the setup (poorly adjusted belt tension, alt brushes near the end of their life) it would show up pretty soon. I gather it used to eat an alternator at least every other year before I owned it.

Re: The time is now
I spoke too soon!
My fucking alternator jacked it this morning.
Regulator snuffed it, but it just got me home.
All it needs to do now is get me up the farm in the morning with a fresh battery.

Re: The time is now
is this an actual 80 amp alternator?
if so I'll get one for the valver since it now doesn't charge.
Infact I might get 2 and wham one on the TD aswell

Re: The time is now
Comedy, aint it always the way! Dunno mate if it's a genuine 80 amp or if you're gonna get stichted up like Vanny. It seems odd to list an 80 amp for the BX range if one was never fitted as stock?????? Best email him and cover your ass dude

Re: The time is now
done that, awaiting a reply.
I could have sworn I out a new Valeo unit on the car when I built the enigne, but it was an 80amp Mitsubishi unit. Totally wanked too, the armature is cactus.

Talking of Mitsubishi - the turbo on the XM is a Mitsubishi I mean.....why? They're not known for turbo manufacture by any stretch.....are they?

/\ yeah but, no but, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a turbo made by Mitsu, I mean, the BX turbo isn't made by Citroen!!!!
