Sodding Buggernuts...
So, two and a half years after the inception of the BX racer project I finally get life in order enough to be able to spend some proper time on it and what happens... I get offered a bloody promotion
Not like I can turn it down tho, Regional Relief Manager, "Regional" being everything from Brum to Bournmouth so shitloads of hours plus millions of miles travelling and limited days off
Do get a "nice" new cumpany car tho, unfortunately the "nice" ebbed away when I found out it's a Corsa Diesel. Lovely, millions of miles in my mobile home with my arse on a rock hard seat! What is it with Voxhells obssession with making their bum cushions out of disused council paving slabs?
Happy but not happy...
Stratford shall be my last alcohol induced freedom for some time

Re: Sodding Buggernuts...
Mind you bin there, got several T shirts at it. I've no idea how old you are Jay, but I've just retired (allegedly) but have been in your position several times.
When "offers" are made there is usually room for some negotiation, if you take the job.
If they picked you it's because they know you and your abilities and what they want from the job. You need to make it clear to them what you want from the job as well. It certainly saves them a fortune in advertising, interviewing, training etc.
The money is not always a bargaining point, but all the conditions surrounding it certainly are, in my experience.
With company cars the benefit in kind issue raises it's ugly head and taking their Co**a may not be your best option, considering the amount of miles you will be doing.
Bargaining points like, Health and Safety; small cars fare less well in M/way accidents (are they putting you in harms way?) Pay no benefit in kind and use your own vehicle, (the tax break is
40p /mile).
Agree time off levels (work life balance) in advance. It all goes to show them that you only work for them, they do not own you. There are government initiatives on the areas I've mentioned, to back you up and there may be more things you want as well.
Anyway good luck, whatever you choose to do.

Could be worse Jay, you could be driving that heap of wank Golf I have in my agarge. You want uncomfortable seats? Try ones thet do not flex at all (even with my lard arse frame) and cause you to slide all over the bastard place when cornering.

Re: Sodding Buggernuts...
That reminds me of a conversation in work a few years ago, when a mate was moaning about the seats in his VW. One of the fitters came in and caught the end of the conversation, and said "Do you know why all German cars have hard seats?" We guessed it may be something to do with well padded German arses, but he replied "It's 'cos they fill 'em with Jew's hair".Madcav wrote:that heap of wank Golf I have in my agarge. I think everyone agreed that he'd gone a bit far with that one...there were a fair few sharp intakes of breath.

I think they filled these fuckers with concrete mate. I always said VWs, and especially Golfs, were shit and I'm not fucking wrong either.
Over-rated shite.

I love my job, well no actually I fuckin hate it - but I love the 33 days + 8 BH leave each year, pension scheme based on final salary, hours, sick benefits and the fact I get preferential treatment within the NHS. Oh and 53p/ mile traveling rate if I need to go on works outings.
The NHS, spending your taxes to keep me comfy.

Re: Sodding Buggernuts...
Sorry to interrupt your smugness, but if you get 53p / mile, you will owe the taxman on 13 p / mile.

He's certainly more cheerful in his delivery than Jack Dee!
In terms of not giving a shit the best were probably the late greats Mike Reid and Bernard Manning. Both these guys were incredible in a live show.

Re: Sodding Buggernuts...
Visited his Excelsior club (manning) a few times and was never dissappointed, he was just funny. A strange character, would make all the racist jokes going and invented most of them,
but he genuinely wasn't a racist. He would never make jokes about illness or children, which probably came from growing up in Hulme, where all his neighbours would be ethnic something or other and had nothing(1930's/40's), when having nothing meant exactly that.
Last time we went, Ringo, one of our apprentices, was late. Bernard said to him, what fucking time do you call this. Ringo replies with, Aw fuck off you fat cunt.
Well that started it off, Bernard ripped the piss out of him all night, at every opportunity, all off the cuff and we were in stitches for about a week.
