Post by charlie » 18 Feb 2008

nearly got all the bits and pieces off so that i can lift the 2.1td engine out of the xm

couple of questions mind

will i do any damage to the air con by letting air into the system, that is disconnecting the pump and some of the connecting pipes

i seem to remember reading somewhere that this was a no no

and theres a seems to be a lifting point over the gearbox but nothing cambelt side

Yes. You'll let all the gas out, and it'll need re-gassing. Also if it's going to be left disconnected for any amount of time you'll need to plug every open pipe etc, even then you'll probably need to have it vacced after.
Why not unbolt the compressor off the sump and tie it up leaving it connected to the system?

There should be a bolt on lift eye attached to the head, black in nature and situated between the inj. pump and cam carrier...
If it's missing I usually lift a nut off the engine mount and stick something like the mount of a seat belt (the hole fits nice over the stud, and put the nut back on..)
