Although I'm barely out of nappies on mild steel welding, I want to build a BBQ out of stainless. With the correct wire, I can apparently weld stainless on my MIG....so what's the score with stainless welding?????? Max info please!

Err.... you have all the info you need.

Apart from, Pure Argon only and a slightly higher gas flow rate. Practice on a piece of stainless scrap to get you feed and juice right.

As I just said to Vanny on that other thread use cooking stainless.

If you don't know the composition of you material, use inconnel wire.

Turn the wick up a bit on your flow meter......

Inconnel is the fucking wire you should use, you twonk. It's a good mixed wire that will weld all stainless's,
whatever their composition and is especially good with low Chrome, high Nickel types that are mainly used for cooking utensils.

I treat(ed) all my students that way, it works, they are dead clear where I'm at and what I expect and therefore don't fuck about.

Being described as a twonk achieves much mirth from their peers and is much better than the clout round the head we used to get.

That has got said a few times, I can assure you, but these days college (and school) managements are that far up their own arse you can't say anything which might bring on a claim.

I was in the very fortunate position that if I did lose it with any of them, rather than report it, my lot would "deal" with it for me. In that the offending twonk would get a kicking from the rest

I can assure you that there always will be pockets of old fashioned justice, as quite a few teachers work the same as I did. It's nothing but pure psychology.
Kids, well from about 8 these days, have an accute sense of fairness. If they are working well and complete all their work ahead of time I let them go early. Principle set!
If we have interuptions and twonk issues, we run over by about 10 minutes. principle understood.
Very few problems.
Twonks come in teacher sizes as well. They will get a good class, bore them to death for 3 hours and still run over. principle set. fuck him.
managers, on the other hand come up with, suppose they have an accident through going early blah blah

My answer to them has always been consistent: Fuck off.

Stuff about discipline and lack of nowadays

One incident from my school years comes back to me - one particular subject we did, the official teacher (who was a decent bloke) had health issues so we would often get a supply teacher. We had a string of 'em in quick succession, and usually got away with murder as they were a bit feeble. One youngish fresh face guy looked like he would be just as soft, but after a few minutes of general larking about, from one lad in particular (who was a definite twonk) something must have happened to cross the line with him. Never knew what set it off, but the next minute he strode down the room, pulled the lad out of his seat by his collar and proceeded to shout at him about an inch from his face for about 30 seconds. We sat in *complete* silence for the rest of the lesson, broken only when we left the room and exploded with laughter. He had our respect after that...

There was one teacher at our school who was quite formidable, anyone messing about (or going to sleep even) had the board rubber thrown at them, and the guy had a wicked aim!
He wouldn't have lasted long in the job today of course.
