End of an Era..

Post by docchevron132 » 28 Nov 2009

After 16 years pretty fucking faultless service, the final two remaining Badgerline Lances will be withdrawn for scrap at end of duty today (Sat).
Given the amount of abuse they've had over the years, and the mileages covered it's amazing that the final pair 122 and 130 were largely unmolested examples of this fine breed.

In a final farewell, and more by accident than design we snapped a couple of shots of my fave remaining beast 122 outside a reasonably well known hospital this evening...

It's also the end of an era in terms of Badgerline Marlborough Street, since as of Sunday most North Somerset work goes to Weston in what is the begining of the end of Badgerline in Bristol.
By February it will no longer exist.
A rather sad end brought about by obscene corporate greed.

I may be the only person on earth that will, but I'll miss the Lances, they were fucking ace.
So, mine will be the only survivng example, the rest will soon be baked bean tins, you'll know if you get one, it'll rattle alot and be very rusty!

122 knew the end was nigh, the starter motor fell out of it (literally) as I was about to take her to Keynsham for the final time. Rather than get another bus I waited for them to fix it before fucking off 40 minutes late.

I'd really love to have stolen it, but since it's tracked by satalite, getting away with it could have been issueous...

So, fair well Badgerline, you were great, and a great place to work, and fuck you First, I hope you all get cancer and die.

I have the gearbox from 123!
Erm, I'm hoping for a bit of a rape session yes.
So far I have bits from 121, 123, 124, 125, 127, 128 and 133.

I'm hoping to get a large number of bits from 126, a couple more from 128 and one bit from 122.

Can't raid the stores since Marlborough Street is keeping two Lances til April, one a Midland Red one, and the other a Bradford one, Lawrence Hill are keeping 10 P2 Lances indefinitley, so they still need the bits for them.
So, it's not the end of Lances in Bristol just yet, but it is the end of the genuine, new to Badgerline 5 speed Lances..

Hopefully you can get all you need for 142 mate (or is it 146  ). I expect a fair few Londoners were sad too when the old routemaster were pulled from service!

Bet I fucking could! It'll engange top at 31mph with a light throttle.
It's quite good at burning BX's and 405's away from traffic lights aswell!

I *should* have 126 arriving complete for bits, which is handy as it is near mint that thing.

Bit hard to use a light throttle up steep hills and traffic lights every 200 yds

Yes.

Very.

[no]
... all landings are in fact controlled crashes, and any crash you can walk away from is a good landing. The definition of a good pilot is a man with the same number of landings as take-offs.
