BXProject No1 - On Google at least!

Post by Vanny » 25 Jan 2010

Well, the BXProject passed a major milestone over this weekend, it is currently ranked No1 when searching for 'Citroen BX' through UK Google! I'm sure it wont last, but its good while it does.

I'll happily admit this is largely due to BXClub server issues, but it's something that makes me happy!

The old google bot has been on here a lot lately, and the yahoo bot.
Since they are both members like, it'd be nice if they popped in and said hi wouldn't it!
I mean, all they ever do is have a nosey around and fuck off again..
Come say hi little robot chaps!

I'm guessing if you google "fuck" "wank" "piss flaps" or pretty much any other profanity at all this place would be No.1 aswell!!

Unfortunately, BXP doesn't even feature in the first page any more. BXC is first, with a load of "usual suspects" thereafter, such as wiki.

One thing that did catch my eye though was the "honest John" description of the BX:
Honest John wrote:Citroen BX (1983 - 1993)

Good: Gentle on the fuel, cheap to buy, superb ride and handling, and useful height-adjustable suspension. Estate is excellent.

Bad: Finding a good one. They're old cars now and weren't built that brilliantly in the first place.

What's Good

A brilliant design. Excellent ride and handling. 13' 10" long by 5' 5" wide. Light weight for its size, from just 900kg, by means of plastic bonnet and tailgate. Well designed. 62-72bhp 1.4 was under-powered, but XU-engined cars okay. Excellent estate. 71bhp 1.9D or 90bhp 1.7TD with PAS are the obvious choices. 1.9D will do 100 mph and 50 mpg. 160bhp GTi 16v was the ultimate BX. Height-adjustable suspension allows 'stilt effect' for floods or rough going. There was a very quick 16v version. 4x4 likely to become troublesome. Plastic bonnet and boot on all but last few years' production are light and don't rust. Very few rust traps in the car. Suspension spheres easy and cheap to replace.

What's Bad

Getting old. Not all 1980s BXs had PAS. Very light build quality.

What to Watch Out For

Clocking (there are plenty of BX diesels around with well over 200,000 miles under their wheels).

Make all standard XU engine cambelt, cambelt end seal, coolant and cylinder head gasket checks.

Clutch cables can pull through bulkhead.

Make sure the brake pipes have been replaced (replacements were better protected and longer lasting).

Plastic ends of car can hide rust underneath. The last BXs had steel bonnets.

Brake pipes go.

Many independent servicing dealers have moved on from BXs now.
All in all that's fairly accurate for a car website...
... all landings are in fact controlled crashes, and any crash you can walk away from is a good landing. The definition of a good pilot is a man with the same number of landings as take-offs.

Just tried that & it doesn't appear until page 3 :?

(Could your result be due to cached page Vanny? Will it vary depending on who your ISP is?)

In answer to your questions;
1) Is it a cached page, very probably as IE8 is SHITE when it comes to caching, but no because i have accessed it through the cache free version of IE8 (little button to turn EVERY cache or memory option off).
2) Will it vary dependant on ISP? In theory no, Google search is now (in theory) cache free, but that would be a potential cause of differences between different users if google search did have a cache. As for the ISP, in theory i'm very close to the central back bone and while not on a main line connection i would be very surprised if i am more than a few minutes from 'real time'.

You never connect to the internet, you connect to a computer somewhere which has a copy of the internet on it, that computer regulalry takes a picture of the whole internet for you to look at. The UK has a physical spine which has the fastest internet and the closest to real time ie if your on it, and you connect to the internet, the computer that holds the picture of the whole internet has just been taken. By being very close you have a) faster internet, b)less delay between when the picture (of cache) was taken and the present time.

ok, so the question is, how do we get BXP to the top and keep it there?

Oh, and yes, honest John seemed spookily on the money there! Must get me one of these fast 16v's of which he speaks, sounds like a hell of a car!

Easy answer is to become a sponsored search link, but this costs money!

But BXC is a small little forum, and that is always near the top.. There must be a reason for this?

Probably down to traffic on the forum, that was the main reason why Jon put a forum on as part of the site - to get the google ratings up.
I mean how any people spout bollocks on BXC every day - also does it combine traffic hits with FCF? I dunno (nor do i care).

Ahhhhhhhh, I am be learnificated!

That said, the traffic's been quite busy over here for a while now, and on certain days more so than BXC...

Ah well, I find myself not bothering to post on BXC again, it's duller than dishwater on a very dull november afternoon...
