I've said before on here. Wigan used to be shittier than a shit tip. It's taken 45 years to lose that part of it's industrial heritage and is rather pleasant now.
New industries are cleaner and wildlife and vegetation have reclaimed what could only be described as desolation, to the point where we have 2 sites for waterbirds that are the biggest in the country.
These are naturally formed lakes. I say naturally formed..... well actually it's where the land has sunk and subsided due to underground shift, as old mineworkings collapse.
