I did hear an amusing story a few years ago about an American guy who was charged with animal cruelty for shagging a raccoon. His defence (although I'm not sure it was a successful one), was that it wasn't actually cruelty, as the raccoon was already dead...

Although Doc has an affinity to animals, from what he's posted it's always in a kind sense so I'm sure he wouldn't cross that line. :)

TBH it's a subject that has interested me from when I read those stories, all those years ago and I've been lucky enuff to spend a bit of time in the Middle East.
It's a fascinating place, arrid but beautiful. hot but dry and the people are something else.
What surprises me is that the majority of them think we're the best thing ever and historically we have shit on them at every opportunity for over a thousand years :?
All the problems they have are because all 3 religions lay claim to all of it. All 3 preach peace and sharing
but seem unable to put it into practice [doc] [doc] [doc]

  I take it you mean Christianity Doc, although it makes no difference really.

They all started the same way, A&E in the G of E. The big split came after the big falling out with the different family members of Abraham. A bit later on, this woman con's her husband and a bunch of people believe it, even a load of Italians who were around and as usual, take things to extremes.
About 500 years later another lot say, Nah! he 's not the son of god, he's just another prophet. This guy is the true son of god. No he aint! He's just a prophet ours is the right guy. No he isn't....Yes he is.
The Jews stand back laughing saying fuck off he aint arrived yet....We'll wait thanks, and the other two say well fuck right off you lot are just heathens. And so it goes...............................

Isn't there some story supposedly researched that he didn't actually die on the cross but the "resurrection" was a recovery and then he moved off into other lands, changed his name and became the central figure in another religion before dying an old man?

Who the fuck knows? Different people at different times have either added or withheld relevant facts, over the last 2000 years. The new testament was formulated by the early Catholic church, they decided which "gospels" went in and which ones were left out. All the ones left out were destroyed only like all people who diseminate, they didn't get them all. Starting with the dead sea scrolls and culminating with that find a few fears ago, a number have come to light.
The other issue is translation, what you end up reading is, someones understanding of what may be written in some dead language......or not.
