old problem

Post by charlie » 12 Jun 2008

the xm has got its wheels back on

and it not only goes but it moves back and forwards

pics to follow!!!!!

problem is that the fronts a bit reluctant to go up and down

i thought there was a problem here before i took the engine out

soooooo need some advice

the back rises up and down on all notches of the height lever

but the front seems to ignore the two middle settings, ie its rises to high ok and will sink on lowest but will not do anything in between

if i stop the sink in between and put weight on the front it does not move at all

the front seems hard all the time

its got new spheres fitted

normally i would be pointing to the height corrector but its an xm so electrics can come into it

i think

what do yer reckon???????????????

Either the rod from the roll bar to the HYC is not engaged properly, which is actually quite common, or the HC is fucked.
OR, the solonoid is sticky (well, actually it's a motor, kinda, rather like a wiper motor infact), but the fact that the front stays hard even when the front end is about where it should be would tell me that either the HC is seized (it happened to mine) or the linkage assembly is either stuck / not set correctly.
Either way your going to have to get under the girl and have a ganders..

[chin] Check the long control rod isn`t bent where it joins at the
front. If it`s been seized at some point and some fucker has been forcing it, it usually bends where it is or was seized.
On the xant with elecktrickery the only motor I saw was near the acccu sphere. Don`t know about the XM. :? :P

There aint a control rod on the XM, it's pretty much the same as a CX, tis all donr via a cool little leccy switch!

The HC is a bastard to get at with good access really, basically follow the guide rod from the ARB and you'll find the HC.
It's mounted on the subframe rearwards of the ARB and is prone to seizing up.
I rather suspect you will find that the swing arm the guide rod floats in is seized.
In normal ride height the guide rod shouldn't be putting any pressure on the swing arm at all, but I rather suspect you'll find it's pushing it on the trailing edge.

i ve had a play and me thinks its the actual height corrector

ive taken it out and there is hardly any movement at all from the ball joint on it

ive compared it to one that bandit has....

and before you all start on me, yes he's ok and ive told him that you all love him and want to give him lots of babies, but hes just chillin

......which moves in and out

so will be trying to strip this down and refit

fuckin bastards gsf want a £100 for a new one, fuck me they can fuck right off
