[drool] [drool] Well for the Vfr anyway. The GS500's not a bad all rounder either!

I'm a brit biker myself having had various mainly BSA, Triumph, Matchless models, Oh and an Ariel 1000cc.
But I managed to get a ride on a chipped firestorm...Fooooooookinell 8)

Also an R1 and an R6, perhaps, strangely, I preferred the R6, the front end of which feels a lot more planted and you can chuck it anywhere. Even using all that power you still have to heave the R1 from side to side.
I got a go on a Fazer too, I think that must be the best handling bike evah.

All this is sadly academic for me now, as her indoors banned me from riding when I turned 60.

Now as I head towards 66, I'm beginning to think she can fuck off.....She never liked bikes anyway.

Hey Phil,

ridden quite a few British bikes myself. My dad has a velocette venom which i enjoy hugely. He also has a nice 76 400/4 hona which is like chalk and cheese to the big single.

Im lusting after an A10 or A65 recently. Cant afford one though unfortunatly.

I say get back on two wheels, but im biased :) :)
OK, so i've got some stuff, some of it goes, some of it doesnt, some of it never will again!

   Mine was solo. When I went to buy it, I asked to try it out. Now I have fairly small hands (short fingers anyway) and the clutch lever on those is mahoosive.
I banged some revs on, slipped out the clutch only I had to just let the last bit go, which was just where the bite was.
Needless to say I wheelied it off down the road at a rate of knots. The guy must have thought I was a right nutter (probably not wrong actually) Anyway I bought it.

First job was to adjust said clutch

I'd quite like a Trumpet 21 bath tub! Meanwhile, when I can get some enthusiasm going, I'm going to take the carbs off my bike AGAIN, and see why they are not working properly....
They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away...
but now that most of them are muslim, I find bacon and sausages work better!

Best child hood biking memory, we tried to jump a canal on a d1 bantam stripped down with a home made ramp. Didnt make it. Bantam is probably still there. Whooops!!!

   Trouble was for us if we did that it was end of story....at least until we found something else that had been thrown away, that we could repair or get going.

People didn't throw much away in the 50's.... :( maybe because they had nowt to start with..

It was only in the early 60's that folks started the throw away society. In fact we were well into the 70's before the £100 a week wage

Fuck me ....all our yesterdays

  I shouldn't really go there but.......

I started as an apprentice at the end of October 1959 on the princely sum of £1-50 / week. But everything is relative! That bought me a return train ticket from Wigan to Manchester for 5 days
5 dinners from the canteen and bus fare from home to Wigan and back 5 times. That's about 2 miles each way and cost 3 ha'pence per journey.

Had now't left though and had to "borrow" off me mam, if I wanted to go anywhere at w/end.

That was the situation till I was 18 and went on piecework. I got 2 rises in that time too, first up to
£2-9s-4d, then up to £3-11s-0d. 8) 8)
