OAT coolant in BX

The coolant additive I used was Halfrauds Advanced Coolant, which is Organic Acid Technology and orange, as opposed to the blue stuff I was replacing.

Please tell me this new stuff is okay for the BX !! I read bad things happen if you mix it with the traditional blue ethylene glycol stuff... but I did flush the system first by filling with water and Holts Speedflush and running the engine for 10 mins as directed (with heater turned all the way to hot).

I just picked it up in the shop and was convinced by the blurb it was a good buy, advanced corrosion protection etc etc

I've used it, although it was Comma. It is actually supposed to be kinder to aluminium.....whatever that means.

It would be useful to know whether it is better as I'm due to change the Antifreeze this year and have been using the Halfords AF & Summer Coolant (Blue).
One benefit in changing colour would make it easier to identify between the container holding the diluted Antifreeze and the container holding the diluted screenwash. 8)

Should be fine if you flushed it out first mate.

It's less damaging to the alloy, so win all round really.

It's also not a good idea to put tap water in an ally block..

Thanks for setting my mind at ease. Tap water was only for the flushing out BTW. I refilled with distilled (battery topup) water and c. 25% coolant additive (1.75L, plus a swig more to account for losses after bleeding).

Cheers,

Mark.

its the pink stuff you have to look out for when mixing with glycol based anti freeze (blue stuff). I've never looked up on the orange stuff, but blue and pink do not go well together!

Indeed, pink doesn't mix with anything much at all, shite stuff...

You mean like pink and brown? [vomit]

Actually, that reminds me of an old joke (better when slightly merry):
Q) What's the difference between pink and purple?

A) The grip...
