Dunno what dictates the choice of hoster but if it really is this unreliable, then surely Jim needs to invoke the "fit for purpose" clause of trade descriptions act, get his money back (+compensation) and go with another provider?

Not necessarily. Jim's been doing quite a lot to the site, well, mainly FCF actually, but BXC is obviousley linked to it, and suspect it's going to be down for a bit in the early hours for a couple of days or so until things are all, erm, whatever it is net stuff needs to be to work proper like..
