Erm... driving it too hard i guess, i only found the damage when the clutch failed and i looked underneath to find the engine & gearbox had parted company at the bottom (resting the input shaft's weight on the clutch plate)

It has been ok without it til now (a couple '000 miles) but after replacing the clutch a took it a bit easier... but, i doubt i'd want to throw it round a racetrack like it!

All the other bolts either fell out or snapped then?! You rekon they may of been missing and you didn't know it?

The other bottom bolt had snapped. It's possible they were overtightened during the previous owners time or could have just been bad luck.

It's likely the 30/0.5 XM spheres i'd fitted 6 months earlier (whilst improving the handling dramatically) didn't do it any favours. Just a tad harder...

So, todays antics have seen the engine bay degreased (revealing a subframe in very fine fettle... thank god for LHM leaks!)...

I've also removed the power rack and associated pipework... So:

The two pipes on the left are now gone (rack & return) leaving just the one on the right from the FDV to the security valve.

Are you telling me that little pipe supplies the suspension & the brakes???

If that's the case then i need a new pipe from pump to PR and a new pipe from PR to security valve... Correct or not?

What, about 5kg all-in... hardly worthwhile when it gets all wet & slippery on the run to work

Incidently, decided to pick up a hardy disc and wheel bearings from GSF tomorrow and their website now reads:

433PC0010 STEERING COUPLING DISC BX UNIVERSAL STEERING COUPLING (+/- PAS) 10.70

Which is different from yesterday when it said -PAS only...

So, what's the sodding difference between the two???

The difference is: the non ABS disc is only half the disc, and the rubber is thicker.

You'll have to drill a pair of rivets out and reuse the pinion clamp.

The PAS unit has thinner disc and both sides of the joint attached..

Erm, the pipe that goes to the security valve will go to the PR, but I can'r see why you'd need to make a new one?

And yes, a new pipe from HP pump to PR will be required, and if memory serves that fuckers 6.5MM is it not?

IIRC the union is larger on the PR than the pipe to the SV.

And yes it's 6.5mm but there's an outfit on ebay that knocks up various LHM pipes so i'll give them a shout...

Will drop this FDV down to you on sunday if you're at the farm???

ahh, yes, you could have a point there... Although surely a union splitter with 3.5mm one end and 4.5 mm the the other end would do?

I shall be at the farm Sunday yes mate. but dont come all that way just to deliver an FDV! I mean, you're always welcome, very welcome, but it's a long old way to go just to get a manifold and deliver a bit of metal!

Every little helps! Besides you could do with losing a few pounds yourself  You know, I actually got called a "Fat Fuck" yesterday. Cheeky cunt.

Jay, don't use GSF bearings as they are V TEch and shite! AEP do Valeo ones (all be it that they are made in fucking Korea - but I was assured by the dude on the desk that they were made by Valeo to Valeo standards (but in fucking Korea!)) but they are £26 a pop. VTech ones will dissolve after about 2 miles esp if you is gonna hammer round the track like!

Anyway, have fun down the farm, and try a beer called Butt Cum (seriously). I'm off to Manchester to get wasted with a friend and watch Fear and Loathing for the millionth time!

Vanny, just to clarify: That would be 4.5 male to 3.6 female? Assuming that's what you have, what do you want for it????

Bx Bandit wrote:You know, I actually got called a "Fat Fuck" yesterday. Cheeky cunt.
Have you been upsetting the local PCSO again...?

Off to GSF soon, i'm assuming this "universal" hardy disc must come with the parts for both + & - PAS...

Bollocks! No hardy discs in stock

Something else... i've been calling these "Hardy Discs" since i first saw one when I stripped down a Fiesta 20 odd years ago... (and AFAIK they've been called that since the dawn of time), so why is it 6 "professionals" at various factors i've been to/phoned in the last couple of days haven't had a clue what the fuck i've been asking for... morons!

Re: Gettin off me arse...

Because they are morons.. It's a hardy disc, always has been..
No, the GSF unit does not come with both parts...

On the small side its male and strews straight into the PAS rack and is thus 3.5mm. On the large side it's 4.5mm(ish) and is female and thus TAKES a 4.5mm pipe. It converts from Xantia PAS pipes to BX rack. I have one i made myself which i'll be keeping, and one made up by Plieades which cost a whippong £30 delivered.

Sounds wrong to your needs.
