Xantia..

Anybody happen to know anything at all about the later 19TD Xantia engine equipped with the ECU controlled Bosch pump?

I put Ed's car back together today, and it'll fire and idle, but wont rev, then runs like a bag of spanners and cuts out.
It'll restart ok, then do the same. The K light comes on and it stops.
If I disconnect the plug to the needle valve on number 3 injector the K light doesn't come on, but it still stalls and wont rev.
If the plug for the timing advance is disconnected it'll do exactley the same.
If I unplug the fucking ECU altogether the K light wont light, the glow plugs dont work and the rev counter dies, but it WILL still idle.

Any ideas at all before I loose the fucking plot completely?
I'm tempted at this stage to rip the pump off and fit a proper plain mechanical pump really.
It really is like it's just not getting diesel to the injectors?

erm, numb nuts, its a xantia. Dead easy fix, involves a bottle of petrol and some matches!

Is it an HDI? If it is, check the accelerator potentiometer hasn't moved.
Also check if it's not something silly like the brake lights sticking on, or any other malfunction that could tell the fucking computer it doesn't need fuel. :x

If it isn't. Check Vanny's solution. 8)

XUD mate,
and whilst I have no problem setting it alight and having a BBQ out of the thing, it's Ed's, and he's a bit stuck for a car if I cant get it to work..

I have no info at all on the electronic Bosch pumps so I'm totally fucked as to what to do to it, other than sack it off and fit a proper mechanical pump.

I seem to remember someone called Dave Black on Andyspares/GSF doing this with one once over - though that was to cure a dodgy miiobiliser fault.

see, I'm thinking the ECU / immobiliser has something to do with it, all hidden in that bullshit box you have to destroy to get off the side of the pump..
If I had a pure mechanical pump on the shelf I'd have fitted it by now instead of chasing wiring I dont understand!

[chin] Is there nowt on the Citonet or whatever that thing Julian claims to have all info on?

That's the fella. I went on ages ago, from a link on CCC. Seemed to have lots of info on it across a wide range of Cits. Worth a look. :)

Only thing I can think of is that on the Epic the needle lift injector was on cyl 4 mate (at least, the one I mean is the furthest to the o/s). The ECU will know where TDC is, don't know it it knows where the pump ecu is, but thinking about it, wont the ECU be reading a fuel input through the sensor when according to TDC sensor and it being cyl 4 it should't be getting any. Something like that anyway, can't quite get my head around it.

I doubt it's the immobiliser as it normally doesn't lift the stop solenoid at all.
Just had another thought, I've got dreaded Xantia Manuels so I'll have a butchers

tis ok, thanks though mate. It seems the low pressure pump is FUBAR, in as much as it doesn't pull diesel!
If you manually pump diesel through it, it runs fine..
Another pump has been sourced via the bay of plenty, so that should make it work.. If not, have several gallons of petrol, and a match!

Hope it doesn't come down to the petrol/match scenario - say hello to Ed from me when you're next grappling with it.

I shall David!
As is always the case, start with the simple stuff eh!
There was thinking "fucking electronic crap" when all the time it was the LP pump! Never even thought to check.. ho hum.
That said, it was late, cold, and dark..

Hope the Edmobile now brought back to life. Can't say I really blame you for automatically suspecting the worst....

erm, in short.. no.
Ed got another electronic pump.
So I fitted said.
It turns over, but wont fire at all. Since the transponder in the pump doesn't match the key!
I had no idea there was a transponder in the pump, but there you go, apparently there is..
We're working on a bodge solution now.

What is it with these new things? Duz the HDi shite have two pumps? One mech (normal) and 1 leccy?
