If the tear has healed with scar tissue and has just herniated, you should be able to do core exercises, which will strengthen your lower stomach muscles, lose a bit of fat and lessen the effects of the hernia generally :)

it's not really a problem as such, it pokes out if I eat too much, and very occassionally hurts, especially if I lift something heavy or such, but I've had it 6 years, so got used to it really.. I assume it's scarred, it tore a couple of weeks out of hospital, but at the time I was stitched back together I was pissing blood out so it was a rush job, (13 pints of blood in an hour I'm told they out in me) so I'm not keen to have it "rehashed" by the same goons really..

They are very gentle really. Basically, you find something to lift your feet about a foot off the ground. lay on your stomach with your feet on the box or whatever. (I use the bottom stair)

Then bring your armsforward and under you and lift yourself on to your elbows and forearms, keeping your back straight. Al you do then is tighten your stomach muscles fro a few seconds then release them. Try for 5 times then drop down and rest.
If you've done nowt for a long time, that may be enough but try twice if you feel you can.
Repeat this each morning till you can do ten tighten and slacken, ten times.
Don't worry if you can't do much at first. The important bit is to take it steady and make it part of a routine each day.
These are deceivingly powerful exercises, so don't push it and you will feel the difference within a month.
All your power and energy comes from that area so you will feel generally better, less tired and will breathe better too. In fact when you have completed these sit for a couple of minutes and breathe deeply in and out as slow as you can.
That may make you feel a bit light headed at first. but I promise you this simple regime works wonders. :)

Hi chaps,

Thanks for the tips. I think I found the culprit. First of all I replaced that dodgy lead.

Image

I had to undo the neg lead at the other end and reroute it so it would reach properly. So I took time to clean up this and all the other earthing points. I had to replace a ring connector to one of the leads earthing at the inner wing when the original fell off while undoing the bolt. But still the alternator wasn't charging the battery.

I then noticed the battery warning light wasn't coming on with ignition, so I had a butchers at the alternator brushes.

Image

Image

Aha! So they need replacing. But after I sanded the dulled surface of the short one and reassembled..... Voila - the battery warning light on with ignition and..

Image

So it's all good for now :D

Mark.

P.S. My alternator is a Valeo YV1925 50A model - I'll be on the lookout for the whole regulator/brush holder assembly as I'm not fannying around with soldering.

Ha Ha! I said it would be a faulty connection somewhere.
The slip ring brush springs are stronger than most motors and you can get a film build up on the slip rings themselves and the brushes be ok.
If you do change the unit, use some fine wet and dry (dry) on the ring surface, before re assembling.

Good tip, will do.

That serial number of course refers to the regulator itself. I knew that.

A car battery with Titanium in it, sounds bastarding fishy to me. You should get yourself a potato battery instead!

erm, I might have a suitable regulator in stock. Will check in the morning..

Thanks for the tips Phil, but there is one tiny problem with lying dowm for me, in as much as my neck is collapsing so I cant really do lying down and such..

I suppose I could fabricate some form of collar or something.. I need to do something about the stomach really, not interested in being a Mr. Muscle type, but it's starting to get painful..

There is nothing to stop you piling some cushions between your forearms ( Yes I know you only have 2) to support your neck.
In fact it will be good because it will keep your spine level, or at least straightish and relaxed.
This will allow you to work the core in safety.
All your power comes from the lower solar plexus. Improving this spot, which these powerfull exercises do, improves almost every other area as when you perform any movement those muscles, along with your breathing, support everything else.

Those exercises are based in Yoga actually, that may be a bit girly for you lot.

I'm OK with that and I know a couple of black belt friends that are OK with it too.
