I know, scary aint it!
I reckon a majority of BX's are all pickled in the same places now, it's just no-one ever pick's the underseal away to find out about it.
Even more scary is that it pissed through an MoT the day before it was parked up! It's done 36 miles since the MoT last August...

it is amazing the multitude of sins that can be hidden with a capacitor. Unless you've changed your engine management, you've got a fault! Motronic can not idle like that.

the operating speed or more importantly the refresh speed of the Motronic unit is rather large, its only like 65 times a second, hence ALL motronic units MUST HUNT. If it doesn't hunt, its broken, nuff said, and bung a capacitor in accross the rev counter and it will smooth the guage out no end. Capacitors are wonderful things.

Erm, I know my GTi is not a valver but it has the Motronic 3.1 and this idles dead smooth at 900rpm!

The only time it 'hunted' was before the injectors were serviced, since then it has been very smooth & balanced. :D

Sorry, you're wrong there, I DO have Motronic 3.1. :wink:

I believe easy distinction can be proved by:

1) No airflow meter in filter housing

2) No distributor

3) Idle mixture adjustment potentiometer on wing.

I take it that you think MAPI is good then? 8)

W2G is quite correct, 3.1 was fitted on a rather large number of cars aside from the 4x4.
My car doesn't have 3.1 though, and it isn't broken. It's not difficult to make the car idle smoothley, mine isn't quite as smooth as it can be, but then most of the exhaust is sat in the boot right now, and that doesn't help.
Once it's all finished it should be perfect.

Well i've got no record of them being fitted to BX's other than the 4x4, they where fitted to various ZX and 405, unless i'm thinking MP4.1, either way thats given me some ideas.

MAPI (and dizzy less ignition) is remarkably more reliable than an AFM based system, but it's not without its down sides. I have considered in the past getting a complete MAPI based ystem, fitting to the valver and remapping, but its not a viable option, not when i can get a completely mappable ECU for £80!

chris youve got 1.3 have you not? or are you on mp4.1? the options are endless!

whats the ECU number? ends 206? my source, BBA Reman has changed its listing, now shows as for all BX models (used to be 4x4 only)

Motronic system

Three types of Motronic engine management systems have been fitted to the Citroen BX range, their model applications being as follows:

* BX19 GTi 16v (pre 1991) Motronic ML4.1
* BX 19 GTi (from July 1990) Motronic MP3.1
* BX 19 GTI 16v (from 1991) Motronic M1.3
* BX 19 TZi with catalytic converter Motronic M1.3

Erm , mine has the two row ECU, which I thought was the 1.3, but going by W2G's table mnakes it the 4.1??

I duno, it's the two row, no knock sensor and has always been very reliable *touches anything nearby thats wood*

MP4.1 it will be, more powerful (by 4hp) more reliable as its more tollerant and less to go wrong. Not all 1.3 have knock, and later 1.3 have mapi etc (albeit with a cat!).

Nope! Secret weapon dude :wink:

Anyway, another fun filled day on the farm......not.
I had one of those moments today when I just thought "shit I really wish I hadn't bothered with this"...

But hey ho...
Anyway... the fuel tank and rear subframe are now out, and some remedial work of the rot that abounds EVERYFUCKINGWHERE underneath.
Image

So tomorrow I could have done the front to rear HP pipes in relative comfort, except I cant find any 4.5mm pipe, anywhere... so that may have to wait a few days whilst I crack on with removing the remaining rot, painting and waxoyling the entire underside of the car, seam sealing everything I feel like and doing the front to rear fuel pipes....

Another NO budget movie of the remains of the car...
Blood hammered out and jammed jim, SHIT! tightened that bad sucker side the runway like a mother, huh, SHIIIT!
