No, cos I'm pretty much done!

Exactley what have you got in mind for Jazz dude?
Bare shell rebuild / weld where required / just bodywork / all mechanicals overhauled / respray ????

Anything is possible, and cost depends really on how bad things are.
Body work wise it's more time than expense, I have plenty of steel, so it's only sundries like gas / welding wire etc..

Obviousley I wouldn't be in to making a profit out of yourself, I dont charge my friends, never have.

Time is the biggest factor, I've spent thousands of hours on this valver, and I started it last August! That said I have gone several weeks ata time without touching the thing at all since other things kept getting in the way...

Anyhow, I flatted the sill skirts back with some 1200 grit and plenty of soapy water, then set to it with some fine rubbing compound, not using a mop, just by hand for now since it's still rather soft, and I'm rather pleased with the result!
Image
Image
It's not perfect and theres still alot of fine lines from the 1200 grit in it, but once it's hardened properly I'll mop it and it should come up ok, so I'm happier to rub the whale down and lacquer that now..

Then I set to with the instrument binnacle and fitted the new speedo head, but not before discovering the bloody trip counter was broken, on a brand new bloody speedo!
Bastards, anyway, stripped the mileage drum from my speedo to keep the mileage, and then stripped a stupidly low mileage head for the trip counter and installed!
Image

Changed the anti freeze and spent bastard hours bleeding it. Ok it didn't need lots of bleeding, but I wanted to be sure.
Changed the engine oil for shiny new Quartz 7000 and fitted a new oil pressure sender unit, so it now works as it should, for the first time since I've had the bloody car!

And then......
The fucking thing started idling at 1500RPM and wouldn't come down no matter what.
After shutting it down and leaving it for a bit it then started and idled about 500RPM and kept stalling.
At the end of the day I fired it up to reverse it back and it was perfect again.
Not sure what the hells going on there TBH, but it is desperatley low on fuel and thats been in there for best part of a year....
I'll have a look saturday, and get some fresh petrol in it, I'm off to Kitchs tomorrow to weld a 106 for him...

8) 8) 8) Awesome mate and having tracked your progress all along I know what`s underneath  [wave]

I`m glad you kept the red off the grill Doc, but looking at that nice dark finish; what about a second stripe down the side, in line with the front and rear bumpers [chin]
By the way our Derek is an ex top valeter if you are into getting it like that.....or perhaps a waste with all the cowshit  :P

The red lower grill was on it, till this morning, but I decided it was rather crap, so it's black again now!

I did think about a second line, but I think it would "split" the car up too much, I quite like the single line really as it follows the swage line.

I am rather keen to keep it shiny and nice looking actually, and it does desperatley need a good mop / polish / something....

If I'm up your neck of the woods in it soon I'll cross Derek's palm with beer tokens!
Thanks dude!

I'm not altogether happy with it yet. The tracking needs setting properly, which I'll attend to tomorrow, but there's still a knock from the front suspension, that you can just feel through the steering, but I'm really at a loss as to what it is, it was there before the rebuild, but EVERY FUCKING THING has been replaced, so that could take some finding... and the O/S strut is, er, not creaking, but making some noise, and it's only 2 years old.... so I'll lube it, and if that doesn't shut it up, I'll bung another one on...
Oh, and the heat shield needs bending a tad as the exhaust just touches it on the over run and when reversing hard.
But it's all just niggles really, it goes better than I remember!

wheel bolts, over tightened rear arm bearing, hammer

in that order are the solutions to your problems, well probably not but thats my instinct.

Have you been putting the same wheel bolts in at the front? I've heard of it before with the washers making noise as the wheel goes round. Doesn't make too much sence to me, but if its not been tried ???? . . . .

Other than that, i hate my car as much as i love it at the mo, so many things that are just not quite right :( Also i want a new gearbox, and a second BX to make DTM esk

[chin] [chin] [chin] 3 chins even. Hard to answer if I can`t hear it

Only things that spring to mind you`ve probably checked... bolts at top of strut....Btm joint.....something on the ARB somewhere :? :? :?

Oh just a thought...ctr bearing on the long driveshaft!!!

I tried changing the bolts over, I didn't think it was, and it wasn't.
Bottom BJ's, ARB bushes, Drop links, HC, Wishbone bushes all briand new.

The sound is exactley like a wanked wishbone bush would sound if that helps?

One thing that has become apparent, the ARB has moved sideways quite drastically, infact it's rubbing on the bottom hose, after only 130 miles.
And considering they are new bushes there is some lift on the ARB when levered, shich is rather disappointing, so I may hvae to look at that more carefully when it's light and I can see things properly.

The other thing that has come to mind are the wishbones themselves.
Whilst they've had new bushes, and the BBJ's are new, I guess it's possible the taper is worn on the arms and the BBJ's are knocking in the arms?
I cant detect any movement with a lever on them, but I really cant think of anything else.
All the nuts around the strut tops are tight, the struts are clamped in the hubs fine, the support bearing on the O/S shaft is tight....

I'll order up some new wishbones in the morning and see if they eliminate the noise.
As for the ARB, not sure whats happened there, it never moved about before, and the bushes that came out were undoubtedly original and wanked out..
Might get another set of bushes and replace the new ones, just to be sure....

:? Defo summat rong there mate...How far (approx) has the ARB moved? Probably not the ARB itself but something has come adrift if it`s moved more than 1/4 of an inch (or 6.5 mm if you prefer) :P

Check bolts in the ARB chasis bush holders..could be some rust allowing movement??? I think you could be on the munny with the wear in
the taper joint...Just dont aquaint that with ARB movement.. You would hear it though :P
