Might there be any plans to enable us to embed things on here? like those funny things we sometimes find on the tube of you? The other forum that I'm a member of uses a code which looks like [YT]object here[/YT]

Could that be made to work on here?

html doesn't work on phpbb forums, just BB code (which is like a massively watered-down version of html.)
It is possible to add more things to a bb forum which allows more than the basics, but embedding items is probably not one of them.
